The information below will help you install and run Citrix and configure for usage from your home computer. This information assumes that you are using a PC running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or higher, and that you use Internet Explorer 7 or higher for your Internet browser.
If you already have Citrix installed, please go to the next paragraph. Otherwise, click here. On the next screen, click on Windows 32-bit and then go down to the button at the bottom of the next page that says 'Download ICA32.exe'. Make sure it is the top of the three buttons. There are two buttons below it that you do not want to click. Once you click that it will say do you want to Run or Save. Select Run. You may have to click Run again. Click Next. A window saying Citrix ICA Client Setup should appear. Click Next again, then Yes, then Next, Next again, until you're on a screen that is asking you a question of 'Would you like to enable and automatically use your local user name and password for Citrix sessions from this client?', at that screen make sure it has "No" selected. Then Next. It should say it's complete. Click OK and then reboot your computer.
Go to our main web page and go to Staff Area, then Citrix Login. Type in your usual username with your usual password you use to log in to your computer. At the next screen, the ONLY icon you'll EVER need to use is the Full Desktop - Full Screen. Disregard the other icons. Click Full Desktop - Full Screen and it will log you in to Citrix. Click OK at the district computer usage message. If a question comes up as ICA Client File Security, select 'Full Access' on the first option and 'Never Ask me again for any application' on the second option. At that point you should see your usual desktop that you see at the school, and if you go into My Computer, you'll see your usual network storage drives (H: drive, etc.). Applications are located either in the Applications folder on the Desktop or within the Start Menu - Programs.
Normally, we suggest using FirstClass directly on your home PC. These instructions are located from our main website at Staff Area - Staff Email. If, however, you wish to use FirstClass while within Citrix, you can use the following instructions to do this.
FIRST STEP: This must be done ONCE while you are on a computer within the school district, not from home. Open My Computer from the Desktop. Open the Local Disk (C:) drive. Open the Documents and Settings folder. Open the folder that is the same as your username. Open the My Documents folder. Note: Your My Documents folder might be named 'your username's documents, for example, if your name is John Smith, it would be named 'Smithj's Documents'. Sometimes it's the username, sometimes it's 'My Documents', so just be aware to look for either of them. Once you've opened that folder, you'll see a folder named FirstClass. Right-click and select Copy on this folder. You can minimize or close this window now. Now open My Computer again from your Desktop. Next, go into your H: drive. Once in your H: drive, select Edit - Paste. Just say Yes to All or Replace all if it asks you a question of a FirstClass folder already existing. Once it's done you'll now see a folder named 'FirstClass' in your H: drive. You're now ready to use FirstClass via Citrix!
SECOND STEP: Using FirstClass within Citrix. This must be done EACH time you use FirstClass within Citrix. Log in to Citrix like you normally would. (steps in paragraph above labeled "Logging into Citrix".) If you do not have a FirstClass icon on your desktop, open the Applications folder and double-click the FirstClass icon. The image will appear for a few seconds and then disappear. You'll then need to double-click the FirstClass icon again. It should bring up a window that is labeled Open Settings File. Click on the down arrow next to Look in: and browse down to your H: drive (if you can't see the H:, it'll be the drive that starts with '(your username) on msd-stor\'. Next, Open the FirstClass folder, then, the Settings folder. Then the 'home' file. That should then lead to the usual FirstClass login screen, and it should say 'mail.mcfarland.k12.wi.us' in the 'server' field, and have your username and password (saved xxxxx's) in the fields. Click Login. That should do it. Remember that each time you log in to Citrix, you WILL have to do the steps in this paragraph that starts with SECOND STEP.
