Open Enrollment
Welcome! McFarland School District has over 10% of its student population open enrolling from other school districts. McFarland is a unique district among Madison's rapidly growing band of suburban districts. Our school population has been consistently around 2000 students for the past 15 years. The district is educationally strong and financially stable.
McFarland High School Tours: Parents and students interested in a tour of McFarland High School and learning more about our educational program and curriculum, please call 608-838-4530 to make a reservation to attend our Parent Orientation on Monday, February 11th. A tour will begin at 5:45pm with a program by department chairpersons and administration to follow at 6:30pm. The program will be held in the McFarland High School auditorium. Questions? Missed this date? Feel to call Ms. Beth DiVita at 608-838-4530.
Academics: We rank among the top districts academically in Dane County and the State of Wisconsin.
Co-curriculars: The district offers a full range of before and after school co-curricular opportunities in both middle school and high school. With some of the highest participation rates in the area, our students are involved in a variety of athletic, leadership, and academic activities.

Size: With an enrollment of 2100 students, we feel we are just the right size - large enough to offer a full K-12 academic and co-curricular program - but small enough to stay focused on each individual student. Several national research studies confirm that our high school size of 600 to 700 students is ideal. Our summer school program continues to be extremely successful with over 70% of our K-8 students participating, one of highest percentages in the state.
Leadership: We have a five member school board dedicated to our mission and strategic priorities. They are community leaders, parents, and educational leaders.
Parental Involvement: Our parents are involved throughout our programming, serving in the Parent Teacher Organizations and as volunteers.
Facilities: Since 1998, our community has provided us with a new intermediate school, a 16 million dollar expansion and remodel of our high school, and a complete reconstruction of all our other school buildings. Additionally, our facilities provide and use some of the latest advancements in technology for both security and classroom achievement. Our computer labs and applications are regularly updated.

Staff: Our average teacher has over 30 credits of graduate studies in addition to their teaching degree and certificate. Our average administrator has 20 years experience and a doctoral degree. Even more, we have an excellent group of staff members who genuinely care about our students and our community. You can count on us to focus on having a positive impact on every child, every day. The attitude, atmosphere, and student-focused nature of our school district are well known throughout the state and help us to attract top quality applicants.
OPEN ENROLLMENT PROGRAM: (Please visit: WIVA Open Enrollment for open enrollment information concerning WIVA.)
Wisconsin's inter-district public school open enrollment program allows parents to apply for their children to attend school districts other than the one in which they live. Wisconsin residents in grades kindergarten through twelfth may apply to participate in open enrollment. There is no tuition cost to parents for their children's participation in open enrollment. Parents may be charged the same fees as resident students (for example: book and extra-curricular activity fees).
APPLICATION PROCESS:
Parents must submit application forms online or to the nonresident school district February 4th - April 30th, 2013 (for the 2013-2014 school year), by 4 PM. 2013. Recently, Wisconsin Act 114 (Senate Bill 2) has been enacted by the state legislature and signed into law by the governor. It provides certain exceptions for those who are outside the application period.
