Minutes of the School Board Meeting Held February 7, 2011
Meeting called to order by School Board President Arlyn Halvorson at 6:35 p.m. in the in the Small Conference Room, McFarland District Office 5101 Farwell Street McFarland, WI 53558.
Present: Don Schutt, Kathy Siegmann, Tom Allen, and Craig Howery; Arlyn Halverson
Absent: None
Administrators Present: Scott Brown, Jeff Mahoney
Motion by Schutt, second by Allen to move into Closed Session under WI Statute 19.85(1)(e) deliberating or negotiating the purchasing of public properties, the investing of public funds, or conducting other specified public business, whenever competitive or bargaining reasons require a closed session and under WI Statute 19.85 (1)(c) Considering employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of any public employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility.
Motion carried 5-0.
The Board discussed the Lecy Property lease and options. The Board also discussed staff retirements.
Motion by Schutt second by Siegmann to return to open session at 7:10 p.m. Motion carried 5-0.
At 7:14 p.m., School Board President Arlyn Halvorson called the regular meeting to order in the School Board Room, McFarland District Office 5101 Farwell Street McFarland, WI 53558.
Present: Arlyn Halvorson, Don Schutt, Tom Allen, Craig Howery, and Kathy Siegmann.
Absent: None.
Administrators Present: Scott Brown, Jeff Mahoney
Other District administrators were attending a Principal-Directors meeting in the District Office.
Motion by Howery second by Schutt to approve the following consent agenda items :
- Minutes of the January 17, 2011 School Board Meeting
- Professional Staffing Recommendations:
* Early Retirees: Cheryl Martin, 1.0 FTE, MHS Special Education Teacher
Nancy Stieber, 1.0 FTE, MHS Special Education Teacher
Susan Bohman, 1.0 FTE, MHS Librarien
* Retirees: Chris Attridge, .8112 FTE, MPS/CEELC Art Teacher
Jeanne Hockett, .5330 FTE, CEELC Kindergarten P.E. Teacher
* Resignation: Doug Stampfli, 1.0 FTE, IMMS 7th/8th Grade Math Teacher
* Request for Leave: Samantha Marquardt, .50 FTE, IMMS 7th/8th Language Arts Teacher
Motion carried 5-0.

School Board Reports – None.
Board Comments: Siegmann shared her experience at the WASB Convention in Milwaukee. She suggested all Board Members try to attend this convention sometime in the future, as it was thoroughly helpful and quite interesting.
Howery thanked Siegmann for attending the WASB Convention.
Halvorson mentioned he attended the MHS play “Dying of Laughter,” and that it was quite enjoyable.
Public Comments – None.
Superintendent’s Report – Superintendent Brown shared details of his recent trip to the New Teacher Symposium. He felt it to be quite intense and very interesting. Unfortunately, due to the bad weather, he returned early to manage school closings around the district.
A. Date for 4K Community Feedback Board Listening Session: A tentative date of March 10th has been selected for a community feedback session on 4-year-old Kindergarten. A discussion regarding who will facilitate this meeting will occur at the February 21st School Board meeting. Other details to follow as they become available.

Action Items:
A. Action on Preliminary Notice of Non-renewal—Motion by Schutt second by Siegmann. Motion carried 5-0.
B. Action to Request Additional Time to Obtain Approval of Non-Profit Status for Four Lakes. Motion by Siegmann to approve the request, second by Howery. After discussion, Siegmann amends motion to provide that the Board receives a status update in 6 months, second by Howery. Amended motion carried 5-0.
C. Action on Approval of Updated School Forest Plan. Motion by Howery, second by Schutt. Motion carried 5-0.

Motion by Schutt, second by Siegmann to adjourn. Motion carried 5-0. Meeting adjourned at 7:47p.m.
