My name is Sandy Schoen, and I’m very excited to be IMMS’s art teacher. This is my first year teaching here, but I have been in the district for four years, teaching art at McFarland Primary School and Conrad Elvehjem. Before being a teacher I was a senior therapist for a group that supports children with autism. I also taught art classes for students with disabilities and their siblings.
I live on the east side of Madison with my husband, two children, and three chickens. I am a practicing artist, making art for both my own enjoyment and to provide graphic design services for a variety of projects. I am also very involved in my community and my children’s schools, organizing events and fundraising.
I believe that art can change the world. It is the lens that we use to communicate and process our experiences. I think that visual literacy is a skill that will help students to excel in their future professions as well as operate successfully in an increasingly visual world. I look forward to sharing my passion for art with IMMS staff, students, and families!
