The School District of McFarland assesses student learning in a variety of ways for multiple reasons. From mandatory, standardized state assessments to classroom-based, formative measures, student performance is reviewed, analyzed, and interpreted for meaning to improve classroom practice. State Testing Opt-Out Form
ACCESS for English Language Learners |
- A large-scale test that addresses the English language development standards that form the core of Wisconsin's approach to instructing and testing English language learners.
- These standards incorporate a set of model performance indicators (PIs) that describe the expectations educators have of ELL students at five different grade level clusters and in five different content areas.

ACT and PreACT |
- State-wide assessment for all 9th and 10th grade students (PreACT) and 11th grade students (ACT) in the spring. Students may also elect to take this test more than once.

Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) |
- The DLM as a state-wide assessment that measures the academic progress of students with the most significant cognitive disabilities in the subject areas of ELA, mathematics, science and social studies. It is an alternative to the Forward Exam.

Forward Exam |
- State-wide assessment given each Spring in the following subjects
- 3rd-8th grade students in ELA and mathematics
- 4th, 8th and 10th graders in social studies
- 4th and 8th graders in science
- The Exam is designed to gauge how well students are doing in relation to the Wisconsin Academic Standards. These standards outline what students should know and be able to do in order to be college and career ready.
