- Like so many others, I was feeling the burnout from public education. I had just moved to the Madison area, and McFarland was the one and only teaching position I applied for. When I think back to why I chose to put in an application for McFarland, it came down to simply one thing: I appreciated and loved the message of McFarland. McFarland is community-orientated, progressive, and equity based. Coming from a large, money and testing-focused district, I needed to come somewhere that I felt like the students and education were the main focus, as it should be.
- I came to work in McFarland as the district has a stellar reputation.
- I have always heard positive feedback about McFarland having lower student to staff ratios. It can be hard to feel effective in your role when you are spread too thin across high needs.
- I had heard nothing but good things about the district and got a really good impression of the staff and students in my interview.
- I started subbing here, then became an aide, then a teacher. Everyone was so kind and welcoming!
- McFarland is great school district. I have watched my own children succeed in the district. I wanted to be a part it of something great!
- Part of being an educator in McFarland is being part of a learning community that is TRULY committed to expanding our knowledge and growing. Raising the bar on what we expect from ourselves and our students. Even if it feels like a lot, all at once in the beginning, it is because as a district we are committed to putting into practice what we are learning so teachers can be able to meet the demands of an evolving field. I feel proud of that.
- The amount of times I was asked for feedback and then SHOWN that the feedback was going to be used towards something was a powerful display of respect to teachers by our administrators and district. It also means our administration has our best interests at heart. They are ALL former classroom teachers with REAL experience in an ACTUAL classroom. It makes a difference. Their decisions are based on what is best for students with the lens of a classroom teacher.
- I did things this year I didn’t know I needed to do. And it was because of the way teachers in our school rally around each other. I can say with 100% certainty that I would make the choice again.
- I have decided to stay in McFarland as I really enjoy the students I serve and am blessed to work with such talented educators on my grade-level team. I also feel that my building administrators treat me like the educational professional that I am.
- Supportive admin, supportive community, there are roles in this school district that I've never seen before, like grade level EAs, who make teaching so much less overwhelming.
- The people! Not just my amazingly supportive colleagues, but the admin, students, parents, and community members have been so incredibly kind. In my six years of teaching, I have never had the support from my admin the way I do at MHS. The students, parents, and community have taken the time to make me feel welcome and wanted here, and my fellow teachers, in my department and not, are smart, funny, and just all around great people that make coming to work everyday worth it.
- I appreciate the support I have, and I feel the community appreciates education and educators in general.
- I have made many close and positive connections with my coworkers and students, that I couldn't imagine being anywhere else. McFarland has provided many opportunities for me and my class, that I am able to put my plans into action and do what I love to do.
- The support from teachers, administration, and my new teacher mentor has been unmatched. It makes a big difference when you're really supported!
- I love the colleagues I work with and the families that make up the community. The students are incredible and I look forward to watching them continue to grow through the years.
- I like the strong staff and student relationships and the dedication to improvement and education that can be seen throughout the district
- Working in education is hard, regardless of where you work. When you have smaller class sizes and ratios for specialists, it definitely makes some of those hard things a little less hard. It can feel hard to feel successful when the workload feels too overwhelming.
- Do it! Public education is not without its pitfalls. However, MCFSD is diligently working to address and overcome the challenges that public schools are dealing with every day. Additionally, the district acknowledges that students have a voice worth listening to, which has been so insightful as we come back from pandemic. Teaching us to understand what exactly our students need besides academic support. McFarland has definitely renewed my appreciation for this field.
- It has a steep learning curve, but the work we accomplish as a team is significant!
- You will feel like a person and not a number.
- Joining McFarland means becoming a team player in providing a safe and positive place that supports students and provides opportunities for all to grow and learn. Take part in our Spartan Pride! :)
- You'll love it here.
- Good things are happening in the district. The staff is phenomenal, the current leadership is supportive and of course the kids make the job worth it.
- I would highly encourage the colleague to spend a day in the McFarland schools to witness the collaboration of staff and students.
